Tempe
is strategically located, adjoining the cities of Scottsdale
to the north, Mesa to the east, Chandler to the south,
and Phoenix to the west. In 10 minutes, you can
be at Sky Harbor International Airport. Tempe
enjoys direct access to Interstate 10, State Route 60,
and local freeways 101 and 202, making the daily work
commute on average about 20 minutes or less.
Every
style of home, from turn of the century Adobe houses
to luxury compounds with acreage and horse privileges
can be found throughout Tempe. Many housing developments
are centered around Tempe's extensive network of parks
that feature man-made lakes, picnic ramadas, and
miles of paths for biking, jogging and walking.
Tempe
is home to Arizona State University with an enrollment
of over 49,000. Twelve colleges offer baccalaureate
degree programs in 82 majors, master's degrees in 95
majors, doctoral programs in 48 majors and one law degree
program.
Tempe
has the highest concentration of high tech firms in
the state. While Tempe has less than 4% of the
state's population, 15% of Arizona high tech companies
are located here--more than 700 high tech companies
and manufacturing firms employ more than 32,000 people.
Pedestrian
oriented Mill Avenue is Tempe's cultural center line,
linked to Arizona State University, ASU Art Museum,
Grady Gammage Auditorium, movie theaters, shopping and
restaurants. The Mill Avenue Merchants Association
hosts the Spring and Fall Festival of the Arts that
draw 250,000 people over a three day period.
Arizona
State University is home to the Sun Devils, the
NFL's Arizona Cardinals and hosts the Tostitos Fiesta
Bowl every January 1. The newest recreational attraction
is Tempe Town Lake, a man-made lake on a 2 mile section
of the once dry Salt River. The lake can be used
for paddle boats, dinner cruises, canoeing and sailing
while the surrounding area offers paths for biking, jogging
and in-line skating. Kiwanis Park includes softball
and soccer fields, volleyball and tennis courts, playgrounds
and picnic ramadas, a 12 acre stocked lake with paddelboats
and a recreation center with an indoor, heated wave and
swimming pool. |
